  1. If you are updating the Norton AntiVirus 3.0 virus definitions using 
  2. the August 1994 virus definition files or any virus definition files
  3. dated after August 1994, you must update Norton AntiVirus 3.0 using 
  4. the patch program provided. If you do not update Norton AntiVirus 3.0
  5. using the patch program, Norton AntiVirus will not be able to detect
  6. the Natas or SMEG family of viruses. This patch does not update Norton
  7. AntiVirus 2.1.

  22. ============
  23. NAVPATCH.BAT    Batch file that will patch Norton AntiVirus 3.0.
  24. NAVPATCH.TXT    Norton AntiVirus patch instructions (this file).
  25. PATCH.EXE       Executable file. Patches Norton AntiVirus using NAVUP.RTP.
  26. NAVUP.RTP       Norton AntiVirus patch data file. Needed by PATCH.EXE.

  29. Instructions for patching Norton AntiVirus 3.0
  30.  
  31. The following instructions must be run from the DOS prompt. Do not 
  32. update Norton AntiVirus 3.0 while running Windows.  
  33.

  35. NOTE: 7MB of free disk space is required for a temporary work area.
  36. *********************************************************************

  38.   1) Unzip the contents of the ZIP file into the directory where
  39.      Norton AntiVirus 3.0 resides.
  40.   2) Run NAVPATCH.BAT from the Norton AntiVirus directory.
  41.   3) Copy both the SYMEVNT.386 and SYMEVNT1.DLL files from the
  42.      Norton AntiVirus directory to your Windows system directory.
  43.   4) Copy the VIRSCAN.DAT and VIRSCAN.INF from the \NAV30 directory
  44.      on the NAV Definition Update disk to the directory where Norton
  45.      AntiVirus 3.0 resides.
  46.   5) Run NAV.EXE and scan your hard disk.
  47.      If the automatic protection feature is loaded, a warning message 
  48.      appears informing you that options have changed. Click OK.
  49.   6) Reboot your machine.

  51. Once the patch is complete, you can delete the files used to update
  52. your Norton AntiVirus 3.0 (NAVPATCH.BAT, NAVPATCH.TXT, PATCH.EXE, and 
  53. NAVUP.RTP).
  54.
